That night, we all gathered at Vale's house to rest. Helios looked at me as he laid down, slightly confused.

"What exactly is happening, Miner? Are we actually going to try and get this Diamond?" I was surprised. I didn't expect Helios to be so...negative. "Of course we're going to try and get it. We need something big to make a name for ourselves. This is our chance to show the world what we can do!" Sting rolled over beside me. "So, defeating a dark lord of evil and destruction, what, three, four times doesn't cut it?" He laughed.

"He has a point there. Maybe we should just let this slide, you know?" I looked Helios in the eye. "What are you so afraid of? I understand, we have been in some not so great positions in the past. And I'm not talking solely about the times we fought Yami and Enyo. Each and every Pokémon on this team has been through something in some way. Shadow was locked up and experimented on, as was I. I took a curse for her, which turned me into a Torchic. Sting had been shrunk and left for dead by an evil black Pikachu named Enyo. You were trapped in that coal mine when we found you. Bad things always happen to good people, it's only when you rise above it that you can learn to move on. That's why we are on this journey. We are making a new life. Yami is gone for good, so there's no longer anything to be afraid of, Helios."

Helios smiled. "Well, I'm not entirely convinced but I do feel better now. Goodnight guys."

"Goodnight Helios."

Sting was already snoring when Helios drifted off. I sat up, awake. Something was biting at me, a nasty feeling of anxiety that I hadn't felt in a long time. Maybe it was just excitement? I wasn't sure, but I felt as if I was being watched.

I had to get out of that room, so I went downstairs where Vale sat, tapping a stick in a slow, melodic beat. I heard him singing softly.

"And if the east breeze blows
Like the summer grass grows
Will I be the one who knows
About the golden treasure troves?

As the sun sets in the east
It awakens the mighty beast
Who invites you to his feast
Will I enjoy it the least?

As the sand gathers by the pound
The rocky maze leaves you turned around
Yet in my heart I'm still bound
To find Hell's Diamond's voice's sound"

I took in each word. He was good, that went without saying. But the song was about Hell's Diamond, which means that Vale did in fact know the legend.

"Did you enjoy that?" Huh? Me? Oh, he heard the steps creak when I came down. I walked down to meet him. "I did. Did you make it up, or was it based off the legend?" Vale laughed. "Miner, there is a lot more to the legend than you think. Come, sit."

We sat down on two stumps on the floor.

"Feraligator knew nothing about the legend. Here's the real story:

There once lived a group of Carbink in this area with a Diancie as their queen. This Diancie would delight her subjects daily by creating diamonds for them out of thin air. Then, one day, a Meloetta came running into their kingdom, claiming that an evil shadow cloaked in red and back was hunting her to claim her voice as it's own. Diancie vowed to hide the Meloetta from the shadow in a cave in the Summer Fields, to the east of here. There the two hid for weeks, surviving off whatever scraps of food they could find. Eventually, the shadow found them. As it reached for Meloetta, Diancie trapped Meloetta in a giant Diamond so the shadow would never reach her. Sadly Diancie also trapped the shadow, and so the Diamond contains the two souls. Diancie was distraught at what she had to do, and returned to her kingdom in tears, only to find that the shadow had destroyed it and all of the Carbink, who had fought valiantly to protect their queen. Diancie, enraged at the shadow, created a monster of stones to guard the Diamond so the shadow would never again escape. As she finished her creation, she heard a soft, beautiful voice echo off the cavern walls, bouncing around the maze of rocks. Meloetta still sang through the gem, touching Diancie's heart. Diancie vowed that she would protect this beautiful and evil gem, and create a lock requiring five other gem keys to open. After this feat was done, Diancie vanished, never to be seen again."

I was overcome with joy. Ancient tales are always thrilling for me, but this one had an extra quality to it. Something about it got my heart racing, and I just knew I had to find Hell's Diamond at all costs now!

"Vale? Are you...will you come with us? To find the Diamond." I asked sheepishly.

"...Of course. I want to hear Meloetta's beautiful voice sing in those caves. That's why I memorized the song. I've always wanted to find the Diamond." "Then why haven't you?" "Because," Vale dropped his head.

"...I'm afraid. I don't know what will happen down there. Many have attempted this before, but no one has actually come close. Many go in and don't come back. It's just so dangerous. I'm just not brave enough."

I looked him in the eye, just like I had done for Helios. "Look, I'm going to tell you what I told Helios. Bad things happen to good people, but when you have a dream you can't left fear hold you back. Instead, push your limits. You single handedly knocked out Feraligator, which four of us couldn't do, by beating him with a trumpet. That was bold, was it not? I'm afraid too. I've almost lost my friends before due to some of my crazy stuff. I've almost died for my friends. But it makes for great memories! So, come with us and we can all be afraid and crazy together!"

Vale smiled. "Sure, Miner. I'll come with you guys."

Ooh, I dig this.
Enyo's not always evil <3 but she really only mothers the Corrupted ones...
I get the feeling she has no issue with harming those loyal to humans, never mind humans themselves.

Interesting, interesting...~
